OGDEN RECOGNIZED FOR BOUTIQUE SHOPPING
Shopping and recreation big draws to Ogden

(Ogden, UT) Liberty Resident Janet Peters was surprisingly stunned, and thrilled, to hear that her 25th Street shop, Umé Boutique, had won the “2008 Best of State” for shopping for all of Northern Utah by Salt Lake Magazine.

It seems you can’t pick up any national lifestyle or recreation oriented publication that doesn’t include an article about Ogden and the Ogden Valley being tops for recreation, biking, climbing, athletic events, lifestyle, etc. Clearly Ogden is considered the High Adventure Recreation Capital of Utah these days. But this is the first time an ‘Ogden bred’ women’s boutique has been so honored.

“What makes this such an incredible honor is the fact that my boutique was recognized for this award amongst all the competition in the northern part of the state, including many of my favorite places to shop in Salt Lake” exclaimed Janet. “It’s been my lifelong dream to own a small boutique and this award is the frosting on the cake for sure!”

In an excerpt from Salt Lake’s website, the explanation of the why and how of the annual awards was described as such follows: “Each year, Salt Lake magazine seeks out the best of everything in Utah. Ume Boutique has been open since 2004 “I always wanted my own boutique, and seeing all the funky energy on 25th Street in its recent transformation convinced me that the time was right.”

Umé means “to dream” in Japanese, and Janet felt this was a fitting name for her boutique, since she her mother was Japanese. “Winning this recognition is an awesome new twist to my dream, and I know my mother would be so proud.”
